27th June 2009 - Golowan festival - Mazey day - afternoon processionGol-Jowan (Golowan) is the midsummer feast of John.Golowan has evolved over the years into a 10 day festival of community events and music. The festival incorporates Mazey Day with its mardi-gras style of processions. Leading the afternoon procession is the Mousehole Cat, escorted by Mousehole primary school children. There is also a starry gazey pie. Other schools parade with coloured banners and flags. The Golowan band provide some music as the procession makes it way down Market Jew Street. Other large papier mache figures are carried aloft. More characters and banners. Pipes, drums and chinese dancers. |
