27th June 2009 - Golowan festival - Mazey day - morning processionGol-Jowan (Golowan) is the midsummer feast of John.Golowan has evolved over the years into a 10 day festival of community events and music. The festival incorporates Mazey Day with its mardi-gras style of processions. The 10.30 procession leaves St Johns Hall. The Golowan band accompanies local schools who carry large figures and play their own music. Other schools parade with coloured banners and flags. The Golowan Band. Schools parade with different coloured banners, flags and papier mache figures. The children play music. A circus troop. Followed by a musical troop. |
