10th June 2009 - Phoenix 100 celebrations - MinionsPhoenix 100 celebrates the 100th aniversary of the Royal visit by the Prince and Princess of Wales on 10th June 1909.The future King George V and Queen Mary officially started what went on to be the last Cornish pumping engine designed, built and installed in Cornwall. The village green at Minions and the Housemans engine house were at the centre of the celebrations. The Trevithick society have their replica of Richard Trevithick’s 1801 Camborne Road Locomotive, Puffin Devil in steam. The celebrations are opened by Richard Masson, Chairman of Linkinhorne Parish Council accompanied by the author EV Thompson. Joining Puffin Devil, a Burrell Road Locomotive is also under steam. Later in the day Richard Trevithick’s 1801 Camborne Road Locomotive, Puffin Devil took to the roads through the village. More information on Phoenix 100 can be found on thier website. |
