Gol-Jowan (Golowan) is the midsummer feast of John.
Golowan has evolved over the years into a 10 day festival of community events and music. The festival incorporates Mazey Day with its mardi-gras style of processions.
Penzance welcomes Mazey day.
The strets are closed to traffic, Humphry Davy's statue looks down market Jew Street which is filled with stalls.
Banners and flags are everywhere.
Pubs are open all day.
and the aromas from outdoor cooking fill the streets.
On the seafront is a funfair.
