28th August 2009 - Perranporth - Duel on the Beach
Bank holiday weekend on the beach at Perranporth.
I came to photograph Surfboat Rowing heats, only to find the event postponed due to the swell.
Even so there was a lot of activity on the beach, surf schools were teaching how to catch the waves.
RNLI lifeguards watched the surfers and swimmers, and teams played beach volleyball.
In front of the Watering Hole beach cafe I came accross the "Duel on the Beach".
This event is hosted by Truro fencing club, who have set up 4 wooden pistes on the beach.
9 teams compete with the foil.
Each team has 3 competitors who fence on the wooden pistes.
They take it in turns with relays to 36 hits.
9 teams compete with the sabre.
and 6 teams compete with the epee.
