SX 845 402 - On the Eastern bank of the River Fal lies Tolverne.

The 15th Century cottage was requisitioned as an embarkation point
for the D-Day landings.

The King Harry ferry is just around the corner to the South.
The River Fal is one of the largest natural harbours in the world.
During this recession there are several large ships "laid up" in the river.

These three just north of the King Harry ferry are car transporters,
some of the United European Car Carriers - UECC fleet of ships.

Tolverne is reached via a concrete road to the beach, this was built in 1944
to access newly constructed d-day embarkation slips on a bend in the river.

Smugglers Cottage is now a bar and tearooms.

It is quite eerie when the tranquility of the river is disturbed by the clanking of metal hulls.

Skeleton crews look after the ships until world trade takes off again and the ships return to china for our imports!
