18th May 2008 - Battle of Stratton re-enactment - Pike menThe English Civil War came to Cornwall in 1643 when the roundheads under the command of the Earl of Stamford crossed the River Tamar and occupied a hill by Stratton.The roundhead pike men advance. The Royalist and Roundhead pike men meet. Not much different to a rugby scrum of today, this is known as "hedgehogs of pike men". Drummers encourage the pike men. The commanders regroup the pike men. As the pike men clash, the musketeers continue to fire. |
