14th June 2008 - Zapcat Racing - Watergate BaySW 84000 65000 - Watergate Bay and the Zapcats are back for rounds 3 and 4 of the 2008 season.This Saturday is round 3, the racers have come earlier in the season this time. Zapcats are inflatable cataramans with a tunnel hull design. With a crew of two, they are fitted with a fifty horse power tiller steered engine and only weigh 48 kg. The racers need nerves of steel as they face walls of water. From the SW cliff path I watched the final two heats of the day. At the start of each heat the Zapcats head straight into the breaking surf. At the start of each heat the Zapcats head straight into the breaking surf. They then go parallel to the shore before turning into shore and round the next bouy to skim the shoreline. Today, each heat is five laps of the course. The final heat of the day.
