A38 Dobwalls Bypass - Monthly changes at Havett HillHavett Hill goes North from the village towards Dobwalls theme park. By Pilgrims bungalow this road will cross the bypass over a newly constructed bridge. The bridge will be built first and the cutting for the bypass will then be excavated. 23rd February 2008 - The cutting is nearly complete. 9th February 2008 - Within a week the earth has been removed from under the new bridge. 2nd February 2008 - The new bridge is bought into use - still single lane until the pavements have been completed. 20th January 2008 - The base layer for the road has been laid over the new bridge at Havett Hill. 16th December 2007 - Bridge work includes laying the road foundations, pipes for utilities and railings. 21st October 2007 - Concrete has been poured over the steel lattice to form the foundation for the road. 7th October 2007 - Work continues to reinforce the bridge. 16th August 2007 - As the month progresses more is added to the bridge superstructure. 1st August - By Wednesday evening the beams had been lowered into position and the cross supports bolted into place. Just like a big mechano set. 31st July 2007 - Signs appeared on Havett Hill saying the road was to be closed for 3 days between 30th July and 1st August. Travelling to work on Tuesday morning we saw 2 low loaders parked on the hill, each carrying a 49m long steel bridge beam. Above the hedgeline a large yellow crane towered over the village. Costing some £2.5m this crane is only 3 weeks old. By the evening two low loaders with huge 49m beams had negociated the sharp corner from the A38 onto Havett Hill. 19th June 2007 - The work plan has changed at this location. The contractors have decided to excavate the route first to transfer the earth over to the embankment over the railway line. So there are more temporary traffic lights to control the heavy plant crossing the road. The bridge will be built later. 19th May 2007 - At Havett Hill the foundations for the new bridge are being cast. 19th April 2007 - excavation starts on the cutting and bridge foundations. 31st March 2007 - traffic diverted onto a temporary road to allow the bridge to be constructed. 25th February 2007 - Starting to construct a temporary road. 4th February 2007 - Ground clearance. 15th October 2006 - Construction of a site compound.
