12th June 2010 - Mevagissey working sail regatta.The cornish fishing port of Mevagissey hosts its first working sail regatta.Over a dozen traditional fishing vessels were under full sail in Mevagissey Bay. There were not only traditional Cornish luggers but craft from further afield. Cornish luggers FY20 Vilona May, SS19 Ripple and FY519 Ibis. Colchester based LN196 Victorious and Lowestoft sailing trawler LT1192 Keewaydin. Traditionally Cornish luggers were famous for Pilchard fishing. The Looe lugger FY7 Our Daddy sailed past before returning to Looe. These luggers are differing sizes and the sail configurations differ. |
