9th April 2009 - Conversation à Nice
Place Massena in Nice, Côte d’Azur is a wonderful open square which has been built over the paillon river.
During the day the fountains played and the trams on the new tramway make their way along Avenue Jean Médecin to and from the station.
But as night falls Place Massena is transformed.
The seven resin Buddas are illuminated and change colours.
The tramway company has commissioned 14 sets of art along the route. In Place Massena we find the Conversation à Nice by sculptor Jaume Plensa. The concept is one person from each of the seven continents in conversation with each other. The changing colours representing the different conversations.
The statues can be seen through the fountains.
