17th June 2007- Looe Lugger regatta - Rowing PZ111 and FY59 out to sea.PZ111 does not have a motor so the crew have to row.The tide is going out which makes life easier, however they still have to steer the lugger down river. It is hard and heavy work! As they reach the harbour mouth they can start to raise the sails. At least is was easier than yesterday when they went out sideways!. Here is another lugger being rowed out of the river. FY59 Reliance was built in 1903 at Gorren Haven. She is 40 foot long and has what is known as a Dipping Lug. This time there is two on each oar! and out to the open sea, where the sails can be raised. |
