13th July 2008 - Trummelbach falls

The Trummelbach flows from the glaciers of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau.

The falls are approx 3km from Lauterbrunnen. There are many paths or you can catch the post bus.

There are 10 glacier waterfalls inside the mountain.

The falls are made accessible by a funicular lift inside the mountain.

Steps take you close to the waterfalls and at certain points they are illuminated.

The flow is up to 20,000 litres of water per second.

The falls drain an area of 24 square kilometers.

20,200 tons of boulders come down the mountain side and it is this erosion that carves the path of the falls through the valley sides.

At the valley floor the stream flows into the Weisse Lutschine river.

There are numerous hiking paths along the Lutschine valley floor.

Walking back to Lauterbrunnen we pass the Staubbach falls.
