10th July 2008 - Piz Gloria, Schilthorn - SwitzerlandPiz Gloria on the Schilthorn found fame in the James Bond movie, On Her Majesty's Secret Service filmed in 1967. Looking up from the meadows above Murren we can see the Schilthorn on the left and the peak on the right is called the Birg.The revolving restaurant at 2970m is reached by 2 cable cars from Murren. If you started your journey in the valley at Stechelberg then there are 2 more cable cars via Gimmelwald to Murren. The revolving restaurant is reached by 2 cable cars from Murren. You change cars at the Birg station. From the cable car we can see Murren and the meadows above the village. The second cable car leaves the Birg, destination Piz Gloria. At the top is the restaurant. The restuarant revolves through 360 degrees every hour. Outside there is a large terrace. From the terrace, on a good day, there is a panoramic 360 degree view with the Unesco world heritage site of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains to the East and more than 200 other mountain summits. Looking North we can see lake Thun Here is the start of a ridge mountain path down to Murren. To the South is the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. From the ridge path we can see the circular structure of Piz Gloria . The panoramic views go on. A paraglider attempts to take off All to soon we return to Murren on the cable car.
