26th April 2008 - Gorseth Kernow proclamationThe bards of the Gorseth Kernow have gathered in Looe for the proclamation of the 2008 Gorseth. The Gorseth exists to uphold the Celtic traditions of Cornwall.As the bards arrive the harpist plays and the horner great the Grand Bard. The town Mayor, Ron Overd welcomes Grand Bard Gwenenen ( Venessa Beeman ) and the Gorseth to Looe. The bards fill the Rose Garden next to East Looe Guildhall. The Marshall's Staves are made of hardwood with a beaten copper head bearing the Awen symbol. The entire ceremony is conducted in Kernewek - the Cornish language. Following the call from the Herald Bard, the Horner makes symbolic calls to the four corners of Cornwall. First to the East. Then to the South. To the West. And to the North. The horn is made from a buffalo horn. The Grand Bard asks: "Unwyth orthough y whovynnaf. Us Cres?" "Once I ask you. Is there peace?" To which the bards reply: "Cres" "Peace" The lady of flowers and her attendants present the gift of Spring to the Grand Bard. The proclamation finishes with the singing of: "Bro Goth Agan Tasow".
