26th April 2008 - Gorseth Kernow proclamation - arrival of the bardsThe annual Gorseth kernow is held on the first Saturday in September. The venue moves from Cornish town to town. During April the bards of the Gorseth Kernow gather in the chosen town to proclaim the 2008 Gorseth.A harpist plays at the Rose Garden, whilst waiting for the arrival of the grand bard. Gathering at the War Memorial by the bridge, lead by piper Bard Merv Davey, the Gorseth bards make their way through the streets of East Looe and meet at the Rose Garden by the Guildhall in East Looe. The banner depicts the Awen symbol which represents creative powers. It depicts a shaft of light, the three rays symbolise Love Justice and Truth. The grand bard's crown of beaten copper has Oak leaf motifs. Bards who hold an official office wear Plastrons around their necks. Their robes are a distinctive shade of blue representing the Sky. Previous Grand bards wear a gold head dress with the Awen symbol. The lady of Flowers and her attendants join the bards. |
