27th March 2010 - Rowing and Sailing in LooeSX 254 532 - Looe's round the island Gig race was cancelled due to the poor weather forcast. However a break in the weather allowed Looe sailing club to race in the bay. As the crews prepared their craft I noticed these reflections in the windows of the lifeboat station. There are a mix of Enterprise ( blue sails ), Redwings ( larger red sails ), Scorpian ( white sail ) and Mirror ( smaller red sails ) sail boats. The boats are moved down the slipway to the river. and sail out to into Looe Bay past White Rock and the Banjo Pier. At the same time Looe Rowing Club bought down the gig from thier boathouse above the beach. The seas were to rough around Looe island, so the gig rowers stayed in the river to practice. The sailing dingys pass other boats out in the bay. The glass botton boat passes Tom Barber's rock. I walked out to Hannafore to watch the race. Large yellow bouys mark the trangular course. |
