26th February 2010 - H.M.S. Somerset visiting FoweySt Catherine's castle guards the entrance to the deep water port at Fowey.St Catherine's castle is one of a pair of small artillery forts built by Henry VIII in the 1530s to defend Fowey Harbour. The other fort, a smaller blockhouse is accross the estuary at Polruan. Normally China Clay coasters navigate the river to reach the docks. Today is different as the pilot boat heads out to sea. Closely followed by a tug. They meet up wioth a special visitor HMS Somerset, which is the guest of the port for the weekend. 2.30pm at high tide, HMS Somerset enters the estuary.
