27th August 2006 - Gribben Head Daymark, Near Fowey, Cornwall
On the South coast of Cornwall, just west of Fowey you will find situated on Gribben Head this navigational daymark.
View the gallery.
Part of the SW coast path the land and daymark is owned by the National Trust. You can park near Menabilly Barton Farm SX 0966 5105 and take the path through the farm down to Polridmouth Beach. The beach is a popular location in it's own right and people often bring their boats over from Fowey for the day.
Take the path west and climb up the hill to the daymark. It is painted red and white on three sides only. The fourth side faces inland so does not need so much paint!
On Sundays during the summer the trust opens up the daymark and you can climb to the top to experience the 360 degree views.
There is no lighting so the trust lend you a torch to climb the open slate steps to the top.
During the summer butterflies can be seen along the coast path
