27th August 2006 - Medical Emergency at Gribben Head Daymark, Near Fowey, Cornwall
Whilst we were at Gribben Head a young woman who was running around playing tag with her brother had the misfortune to catch her foot in a pothole and suffered a broken ankle as a result.

The National Trust volunteers attended to her and called 999. You could see the Ambulance and Coastguard arriving at the farm but this was over a mile away from the causalty. The coastguard landrover picked up the paramedic and started accross the fields and went out of sight. We could hear the siren and then the "mooing" of cows as they got out of the way of the landrover.
We wondered how confortable it would be for the injured lady in landrover to get back to the ambulance. Today was August bank holiday Sunday and over in Plymouth it was Navy Days . A Sea King from RNAS Culdrose had just finished it's display when it received a call to divert and it was quickly on scene.
The paramedics and coastguards attended to the casualty
Soon she was in a stretcher being carried to the helicopter. The Sea King took her straight to Treliske Hospital in Truro.
An unfortunate day for the woman, but it was interesting to see how quickly the emergency services responded and it just proves the worth of the air sea rescue service. We learnt later that the Cornwall Air Ambulance would have been called but it was already committed to a road traffic accident, somewhere else in Cornwall.
