8th March 2009 - St Pirans Pilgrimage, PerranporthSW 7685 5638 - I make no excuses for going back to Gear Sands near Perranporth for the annual St Pirans play and pilgrimage. The people of Perranzabuloe celebrate St Piran each year on the Sunday closest to St Pirans day. Behind the piper and drummers the pilgrims carry Cornish flags proud. This is the tenth aniversary of the play. From the site of St Piran's oratory the procession moves accross gear sands towards the cross of St Piran beside the site of St Piran's church. The pilgrims carry bunches of daffodils. A piper and two drummers lead the procession. The Hornets play during the pilgrimage. |
