13th February 2007- Rome - Appian Way.

The Appian Way of Appia Antica is one of the most important of ancient Rome's roads. Taking you to 212km to Campania and onwards another 370km to the port of Brindisi before departing for Greece.

As the traffic dies away the road narrows to 6m, flanked by monuments and mausoleums.

Tratorria on Via Antica

In Pagan and early Christian times burials were not allowed within the city walls. So just outside we find a number of caracombs.
