A38 Dobwalls Bypass - March 2008- Moorswater Distributor RoadOvernight on the 27th February 2008 the Moorswater Distributor Road was bought into use. The delay in opening was due to the poor ground conditions around Looe Mills. The old hill is now free from traffic so the final part of excavations for the dual carriageway can begin. On Saturday I walked the route of the new Distributor road, starting at Moorswater. Here the original junction onto the industrial estate has been closed and the road extended infront of Edens to a new junction by Manuscript. Temporary traffic lights control the narrow section. By Looe Mills we can see how the traffic has been diverted accross onto the new distributor road. The old hill is now traffic free apart from resident access to the dwellings by Blackdown and Tuelmenna. Temporary access is maintained to the dwellings at Looe Mills. Here we can see how the traffic has been diverted onto the distributor road. As we walk up the hill we can look over the junction to Tuelmenna and the excavations for the bypass. The distributor road climbs quite tightly alongside Looe Mills farm. Continuing up the hill we start to see the beams for the new junction at the eastern end of the bypass. The cross girders have been installed. Here we can see the route for the bypass. We are walking west towards the lane to Boduel. This is the realigned lane to Boduel, several trees have already been planted on the embankments. I understand that over 54,000 trees, shrubs amd hedge plants are being planted along the new route. We go under the bat bridge. Past the new entrance to Lantoom Quarry. As the distributor road rejoins the original A38 we can look down the hill. The contractors are already busy at work removing the old road furniture. The distributor road now rejoins the original A38. To the left is the location of the Petersfield junction. |
