A38 Dobwalls Bypass - July 2007 - Havett HillSigns appeared on Havett Hill saying the road was to be closed for 3 days between 30th July and 1st August. Travelling to work on Tuesday morning we saw 2 low loaders parked on the hill, each carrying a 49m long steel bridge beam. Above the hedgeline a large yellow crane towered over the village. Costing some £2.5m this crane is only 3 weeks old. In the evening the low loaders were next to the crane. The 15 ton weights have been added to the crane and the leg supports extended. All ready for the girders to be lowered into place tomorrow. The crane's jib is extended. The beams are pre drilled so the cross struts can be easily bolted into place. The bridge supports are in place and the cross struts are in piles ready to be fitted onto the girders. |
