28th December 2008 - Dartmoor - Raddick Hill - Devonport LeatSX 57365-71353 - A cold and crisp day, ideal for a walk along the Devonport Leat south of Princetown.Below Black Tor, the Devonport leat cascades down Raddick Hill. At the bottom there is an aquaduct over the River Meavy. Along the leat ice covers the vegitation. Even with a strong flow of water there were Ice Formations everywhere. Twigs, rocks and grass all provide anchor points for icicles. It was so cold overnight that Ice still surrounded the small rocks in the leat . The ice is so thick the water does not dislodge it. At tghe top of the hill we can look south over Sharpitor and Leather Tor. |
