27th January 2008 - Dartmoor - Meldon and Yes TorA glorious Sunday, the sun is shining and very little breeze. What a day to choose for a walk on the high moor.SX 5621 9178 - Parking at Meldon reservior we crossed the dam and headed up Longstone Hill and a 2 mile climb to Yes Tor. We walk along the col from Yes Tor to Higher Willhays, this is looking back at Yes Tor. Looking west from High Willhays we look over the West Okement River valley and start to walk in this direction. Further along the valley is Black-a-tor Copse. This copse is a national nature reserve and is a small upland oakwood. Several species of rare litchen grow here. The sunlight catches the trees on the side of the river. Walking on, we reach a stone bridge at the head of the reservior and walk back to the car park. Over the other side we can see the path up Longstone Hill which was at the start of our route today. |
