13th October 2007 - Zapcat Racing - Watergate BaySW 84000 65000 - Watergate Bay and the Zapcats are back for the final rounds of the season. This Saturday is round 14 and the racers face large breakers for thier final challenge of the year. Zapcats are inflatable cataramans with a tunnel hull design. With a crew of two, they are fitted with a fifty horse power tiller steered engine and only weigh 48 kg. The racers need nerves of steel as they face walls of water. It is certainly spectatucular for us watching from the shoreline or on the cliff path. At the start of each heat the Zapcats head straight into the breaking surf. They then go parallel to the shore before turning into shore and round the next bouy to skim the shoreline. Today, each heat is three laps of the course. For more on Zapcat racing check out the official site. Click here for more on Watergate bay and the Extreme Academy. |
