22nd September 2007 - Zapcat Racing - Watergate BaySW 84000 65000 - Watergate Bay, just to the North of Newquay is home to the Extreme Academy and Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restuarant.Renowned for it's surf, Watergate bay is called "the spritual home of Zapcat Racing" by the sports event director. Autumn weater makes for good surf and excellent racing, with the boats just metres from the shore. The other heats of the zapcat racing series is on flatter water. Zapcats are inflatable cataramans with a tunnel hull design. With a crew of two, they are fitted with a fifty horse power tiller steered engine and only weigh 48 kg. This weekend we have heats 11 and 12 with the first two rounds of the king of the surf competition. From the SW coastal cliff path we have a good view of the course.
