Held over 3 weeks each February, these giant, colourful parades take place day and night,
with entertainment provided by over 1,000 musicians and dancers from across the world.
This year's Carnaval procession has 18 "Chars di Carnaval" floats, and the theme is the "King of Music".
Starting in Place Massena the procession loops around Albert 1er gardens back to the main square.
The earliest mention of Carnival merry making in Nice goes back to 1294, when the Count of Provence Charles d'Anjou spent the "the joyous days of Carnival" in Nice.
