7th September 2014 - Venice - Regatta Storica.

Part of the annual Regatta Storica, which is traditional Gondola racing along the Grand Canal is the Historical Water Pageant.

The pagaent commemorates the 1489 welcome to Caterina Cornaro wife of the King of Cyprus who renounced her throne in favour of Venice.

Gondolas from the Voga alla Veneta ( Venetian rowing association ) and Gondoliers assemble on the Rio de l'Arsenal.

From our vantage point on the Rio de l'Arsenal,
traditional 16th century Gondolas carry the Doge and Venetian officials
out into the Bacino San Marco and along the Grand canal.
