Dating back to 1897 – this event was first held to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
Recreating the then candle lit rowing boats, using more than 70 tea lights
is a Lancaster bomber marking the 70th anniversary of the Dam Busters Raid
rowed by 82-year-old George Holloway of Matlock Bath.
A parade of boats sail along the river, random visitors in the crowd are asked to vote for their favourite boat.
First prize and the prestigious Arkwright Cup goes to the Motley Bunch, with their Chinese Dragon boat, Longwei.
With a flick of a switch, Longwei comes alive, lit with over 1200 bulbs.
Second prize went to Ian Page with his creation, the Princess and the Watersnail Carriage.
Vanessa – the Derwent Monster by Isabel Flavell was voted third.
"Wonkatania" – the boat featured in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is rowed by David Gregory.

Each year teams create new themes for the 12 foot rowing boats.

There are ten boats in this year's parade, the teams row along each side of the river bank.
A Police car, lorry, smurf ferris wheel and penquin island.
The parade of boats takes place each saturday and sunday evening during september and october. In october there is also a fireworks display from the cliffs.
