Known by the locals as Brighton Pier or Palace Pier, the corrent name for the pier is The Brighton Marine Palace and Pier.
Opened in May 1899 the pier is 524m or 1,719' long.
The rides at the end of the pier cannot operate in high winds.
The West Pier closed in 1975 and later was damaged by fires and storms.
Just to the East of Brighton Pier is the Brighton Wheel.
Some of the remaining iron structure of the West pier was partially demolished in 2010.
