11th August 2010 - British Fireworks Championships - Plymouth Hoe

Now in it's 14th year the the British fireworks championships is once again lighting up the skys of Plymouth. For two nights in August, 6 teams provide thousands of spectators with fantastic displays. Using Mountbatten breakwater for the displays, crowds line Plymouth Hoe and Jennycliff to watch. Plymouth Sound is full of small boats looking for a spectacular viewpoint.

For heat 2, I stayed on the Hoe using Smeatons Tower as a focal point. The first team were from Flashpoint Fireworks

This was challenging as there were large floodlights and security staff in high-vis jackets on top of the lighthouse.

The second team were SM Art Pyrotechnics.

This time I placed Smeatons tower to the left of the image.

The third display of the evening was from Star Fireworks.

Congratulations to Star Fireworks they have won the coveted title after their magnificent display closed the second and final night of competition.

The display filled the sky.

It is difficult to capture the noise and movement of the display with still images.
