The old part of the town is based around the centra storio and Plazza Tasso which overlooks the narrow road down to Marina Picolo.
Sorrento is built on a cliff top plateau and is surrounded by limestone hills.

Legend knows Sorrento as the land of the Sirens and the town dates back to ancient Greece.
Overlooking Marina Picolo is the Circolo Dei Forestieri or Foreigners Club and it's Terrazza delle Sirene.
Marina Picolo is the main ferry harbour, where boats and hydrofoils provide services to Naples, Amalfi, Positano, Capri and Ischia.
Sorrento does not have any beaches so Bathing Platforms jut out into the sea.
Cruise liners visit Sorrento on a regular basis. Passengers are bought ashore by tender.
Hydofoils take passengers to Naples, Capri, Ishica, Positano or Amalfi.
As the season closes the deckchairs, parasols and decking is removed for the winter.
Sorrento is famous for the production of limoncello, a digestif made from lemon rinds, alcohol, water and sugar.
