This mine produced mainly tin, it is some 200 feet above sea level and the sounds of the waves can be heard through the grating that caps one of the shafts.
There are a number of engine houses and calcifiers on the Wheal Coates site.
Towanroath Shaft is now a Listed Grade II building. This pumping engine house had to be massive to pump out water from the deeper levels of the mone which ran out beneath the sea.
