For several years Plymouth has hosted the British fireworks championships.

Usually 6 teams compete but in 2006 for the 10th anniversary, 8 teams competed for the Champion of Champions.

Crowds line Plymouth Hoe and Plymouth Sound is full of small boats looking for a spectatular viewpoint.

In 2006 Dr Roy Lowry of the University of Plymouth attempted to break the "40,000 rockets in five seconds" world record held by Terry McDonald from Jersey, with the simultaneous firing of more than 57,000 rockets.
